Colombia: English Teaching Fellowship Program



"Exciting opportunity for recent grads, graduating seniors or ANYONE interested in teaching English in Colombia! The Ministry of Education in Colombia has launched a nationwide bilingualism initiative implementing comprehensive training in English to reach individuals in vulnerable communities extending from schools to technical training centers in both urban and rural areas of the country.Foreign teachers are being recruited to teach English in government establishments for 6 months. These volunteers will be sponsored by the government and will have the responsibility of co-teaching English classes, conversation clubs, coaching teachers and other activities. This unique opportunity allows volunteers to gain valuable personal, professional and cultural development experiences while impacting the lives of the students they teach.The program includes a stipend for basic living expenses, training and orientation, as well as a network of other foreign teaching volunteers. Volunteers will be responsible for 25 hours a week of training and 15 hours a week in planning, meetings, and other responsibilities.

Current contract dates: June 21, 2015-November 26, 2015


We are looking for motivated volunteers who are mature, flexible, adaptable, accountable, committed and who fulfill the following requirements:

  • Native English speaker or non-native English speaker with Level C1 certified
  • Minimum age 21; maximum age 55
  • 4 year college/university degree
  • Demonstrate mental/physical capacity to teach students and facilitators (both children and adults)
  • Must provide the following:
    • Biography CV/Resume
    • Clean criminal record 
    • 2 letters of recommendation
  • Preference is given to those who encompass the following desired qualities:Experience of having travelled or lived in another country, especially in a Latin American country
    • TEFL certification
    • Teaching experience
    • Basic level of Spanish
Once applicant has passed the application process a $400 USD refundable down payment is required.

Brief program details:

  • Assistance with visa arrangements
  • Pick-up at airport
  • 2-week orientation and training in Bogota (meals and housing included)
  • Transfer to teaching placement with accommodations for the first month
  • Academic and welfare support throughout
  • Stipend of Colombian pesos 1,500,000 per month 
  • Completion bonus per semester
