05

English Opens Doors: "Supported by the Chilean Ministry of Education and the UN Development Programme, the English Opens Doors Program works with native and near-native English speakers between 21 and 35 years old to teach English in Chile under the direction of head teachers in public and semi-private schools."
-English Opens Doors Website

The program provides housing with a host family as well as a $120 monthly stipend for classroom assistants. A former student of mine will actually be partaking in this program beginning June 2013! So excited to see a love for Spanish, teaching and cross-cultural communication continue on to future generations!

Positions are for 10 months during the Chilean school year calendar. Other types of opportunities are also available.

Spain: Cultural Assistant Programs

Spain provides different programs for those wishing to spend a week, a few months or even a year teaching English there. Some require application costs, while others are free. Lodging and food are provided by some, and others provide stipends and other perks as compensation.

Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE): By partnering with governmental bodies in various Comunidades Autónomas throughout Spain, this company offers several opportunities for teaching in various countries. Serving as a cultural assistant in Spain ranks as one of the most popular, with a $1,000-$1,300 acceptance fee, and $700-$1,000 monthly stipend. Assistant spends 12-16 hours weekly aiding classroom teachers in ESL lessons. Costs and stipends from other countries vary, but are also available.

Bilingual English Development and Assessment (BEDA): Similar to the program above, this program offers $900-$1,200 for 18-24 hours of teaching assistance in Catholic institutions throughout Spain. The website offers further information on how to apply.

North American Language and Cultural Assistants: Much like those of the other 2 programs, assistants volunteer teaching English in classrooms with regular teachers for a small stipend.

Vaughan Town: Native English speakers can volunteer for up to two weeks of teaching at one of the many sites throughout Spanish. All lodging and food are provided in exchange for your "language expertise."

Know of other opportunities in Spain? Feel free to share. Thanks, and happy travels!
